Recap

Review of week 6
The sixth week of the course is now complete. We hope you enjoyed it and found it useful. In the next (and final week), we will consider crowding and spacing.

What are the take-home messages from this week?

MIH is a common enamel defect in children that you are likely to see in your clinics. It’s important to determine the prognosis of any affected FPMs by the age of 8-9 years.

In general a good history and examination (including radiographs) is really important. You need to have access to a DPT to assess which permanent teeth are present and you may need orthodontic input if there is a malocclusion.

You also need to know if the patient is having any symptoms from the teeth. And what their co-operation is like. These factors will be important when you are considering whether to monitor / restore or extracted compromised FPMs.
