Welcome back

This week we will be covering topics related to success, an elevator pitch, reflection and skills auditing.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to Week 2 of the course. It’s been said that success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. This was a quote by Robert Collier who authored various self-help books in the 20th century. We’ll be taking his advice and conducting various tasks in this course to help you to become more successful in your career. In this week we’ll be covering a few different topics. We’re going to investigate what does success mean, and how can we aim to be more successful in our career. What is the elevator speech all about, and how can we develop one. How self-reflection can be a great approach to developing a professional identity and professional skills.
Then our last point, we are looking at the skills audit which is your assessment task for this short course. Enjoy Week 2, and I hope you learn lots of new things to help you boost your career.

Everyone has different criteria for success but learning to reflect can help us all achieve our goals.

This week we will investigate:

  • what success means and how to be more successful in your career
  • what an elevator speech is all about and how to make one
  • how self-reflection can help develop your professional identity and skills
  • what a skills audit is and how to conduct this as your assessment task for this short course.

Your task

What two words come to your mind when you think about success? Contribute your thoughts to this AnswerGarden word cloud1, and as you work through your tasks this week, come back and visit the poll to read the words other learners are putting in.

There may be a pattern in the words that demonstrate shared concepts about what success means. Understanding how others think about success can be a source for self-reflection.
