How well is the UK doing when it comes to meeting its legally-binding climate change targets? This video sets out progress to date towards meeting the UK’s carbon budgets and provides an independent assessment of the UK’s Clean Growth Strategy, the Government’s blueprint to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the 2020s and 2030s and what does their new 10 point plan mean for us all.

Amer Gaffar, Director of Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre

There are challenges posed by the global trend of new mobility and generation of power which we are all ready to embrace in a new greener industrial revolution . The current climate and the fact that we have shown that we are thinking about a cleaner future, through constant development of alternative fuels and low-emission technologies shows that we are indeed ready to build back better.
I definitely feel confident that renewables will be the driving force for fuel and power of the new future. Our goal is to build on the momentum shown during the pandemic towards the ‘green revolution’ and recognize that our reliance on fossil fuels and coal is one that can stop. The positive part of this decline in a legacy industrial economy is that globally the position on decarbonising and adopting cleaner ways of generating power and will enable the creation of a new stronger and cleaner economy which shows that we are recognising the importance of climate change and stopping our reliance on fossil fuels. Our collective goal is to understand the challenge we all face in cleaning up our cities and regions and how to address this.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester

The ultimate goal of our recovery strategy, will be to ensure Greater Manchester is able to develop and exploit opportunities, to build back better with a sustainable, fairer, greener and more successful economy and society than before the pandemic.
