Local Action

The Greater Manchester Local Industrial Strategy outlines an ambitious city-region Clean Growth mission to date, the headline announcement when the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy launched this in June 2019.

The Mission builds on the Greater Manchester 5-year Environment Plan (GM 5-YEP) which we have already reviewed and one that identifies that a 191.8m tonnes of carbon gap exists to deliver the Net-Zero carbon target by 2038 this was calculated by the Tyndall Centre in Manchester.

Within Greater Manchester multiple emissions reduction pathway projections show the earliest net zero carbon can be achieved is 2042. This is based on the implementation of over 40 interventions to their maximum extent” so what else can we do ?

Research and Innovation?

Bridging this gap requires research, innovation, demonstration and deployment of technologies, services and business models that will draw on academic expertise across: science, engineering, social science, policy / political influences and business / finance.

Industry

Teaching yourself good behaviour in the fight against climate change is something we have all been doing in many ways. Many of you will have changed to lower energy efficient lighting or insulated your properties. You may also have in your work environment utilised less waste and . Again, this does not necessarily mean doing a course. The friend decided to join a band. In terms of poetry, it might mean sending a poem to a magazine or competition. It might mean reading at an open-mic night or joining a local writing workshop. Or yes, doing a taught course.
