ERIC MAFUTA: Hello, welcome to the module on [INAUDIBLE] epidemiology and outbreak response. In this section, we will focus on the promise and limits of technology, an example from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria. My name is Eric Mafuta. I’m a medical doctor and associate professor at the University of Kinshasa’s School of Public Health, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Surveillance of acute flaccid paralysis, commonly called AFP, is one of the four cornerstone eradication strategy. In some contexts where surveillance activity cannot be carried out easily because of geographic, demographic, or political situation, surveillance strategy of AFP rely upon new technology.
