Congratulations on completing Week 4. This week, we moved from UK weather to explore some of the weather patterns in the Tropics. You should now feel more comfortable:

  • explaining how the Earth’s climate (on a global scale) is determined by the balance between energy absorbed and energy emitted,
  • describing the processes that affect the Earth’s atmosphere and therefore climate, both natural (volcanoes, orbit) and man-made (greenhouse gases),
  • investigating local weather conditions using readily available instruments,
  • drawing isolines on the maps to further your understanding of the weather.

How are you finding the course so far? If there’s anything you’re struggling with, share it with other learners here and perhaps someone will be able to point you towards a helpful resource

Next week

We’ll discover it’s not all warm and sunny in the Tropics and investigate why extreme weather occurs in these areas, such as hurricanes, cyclones and monsoons.
