Welcome to ‘Coping with Changes: Social-Emotional Learning through Play

It this short introductory video you'll meet course host Carly Ciarrocchi.
Hey welcome, this is Coping With Changes: Social emotional learning through play. I’m Carly. I’m going to be your guide through videos, activities, articles, audio experiences an more. You’re probably here because you have children in your life. You’re a parent or a caregiver. Maybe you’re an educator, you’re a coach. You teach an after school program. Whatever you do, you care about supporting the children in your life and their social, emotional development through play, especially during a time of crisis. In this course will look into how play can support mental health and well being and social emotional development in times of crisis. Then we’ll take what we learned and will apply it across three age groups.
Early childhood, that’s birth to three years. Middle childhood, that’s ages 4 to 9 an adolescents ages 10 and up. Now you may not interact with children in each of those age groups, but we still recommend that you move through the entire course and then you can see where the children that you work with fit in across the developmental spectrum. When you’re finished, you can always return to different units or steps in the course at any given time. I’m Carly. I am a Brooklyn based host musician, an writer working mostly in children’s television. So I spend a lot of time thinking about the intersection of social emotional learning and play. And I’m really excited to learn along with all of you.
My hope for your experience is that it’s useful, practical and surprising and joyful. Welcome aboard.
