Summary and Reflection

We reflect upon the learning from the course and how we will take it forwards into the workplace of the future.
Congratulations on (almost!) reaching the end of the course.

This final step includes a few resources which summarise many of the themes we have covered over the past two weeks.

This TED article by Kate Torgovnick May provides a fitting conclusion to this course about the future of work. Faced with an abundance of choice in the digital economy, she talks about the need to fight for your calling:

“Your calling is at the intersection of a Venn diagram of three things: doing something you’re good at, feeling appreciated, and believing your work is making people’s lives better”

You may also find this Fast Company article a useful summary of many of the themes we have discussed over the past two weeks. It’s titled “5 things I’m telling my kids to prepare them for the future” and the sub headings are:

  • Robots (probably) aren’t taking over
  • You’ll be in school the rest of your lives
  • You can be your own boss
  • Focus on social skills
  • The future is up to you

And check out this recent Radio 4 “In Business” programme Making an Impact:

“David Baker meets new business champions who want to overturn the old ways of doing things and put commerce at the centre of guaranteeing a future world that is good for everyone. But will it work or is it just a flash in the pan?”

Food for thought?! Your comments on these points, and on the questions below, will be appreciated as always.

What have you found to be good, useful or interesting this week?
What actions will you now take to learn more about these topics?
What questions, if any, have arisen for you this week?
