Welcome to Week 6
This is the final week of Cyber Security for Business, and it carries two purposes simultaneously. The first is forward-looking: examining the forces that are reshaping the cyber security landscape and equipping you with a strategic perspective on what is coming, not just what is here today. The second is integrative: bringing the learning from all five preceding weeks together into a coherent, personally relevant framework for security leadership that you can apply in your role from the moment this course ends.
The threats and technologies examined in earlier weeks are already evolving. Artificial intelligence is accelerating both attack capability and defensive response in ways that are changing the speed, scale and sophistication of the cyber security challenge. Quantum computing is approaching a threshold that will render current encryption standards obsolete. Geopolitical instability is creating new attack motivations, new regulatory fragmentation and new uncertainties for organisations operating across borders. And the cyber security skills shortage, already significant, is widening. Against this backdrop, the NCSC Annual Review 2025 made a statement that captures the stakes clearly: cyber security is now a matter of business survival and national resilience. It is no longer acceptable for organisations to treat cyber security as an IT department concern. It is a board-level, leadership-level, management-level responsibility. This week equips you to fulfil that responsibility with confidence, clarity and a genuine understanding of where the field is heading.
