A summary of week one of the course Deep Learning for Bioscientists
Well done on completing week one of the course.

In this week we have covered:

  • key differences between machine learning and deep learning
  • a brief look at the software tools available for deep learning
  • introduced PyTorch, the Python library we will be using throughout the course
  • a quick discussion of the use of GPU acceleration, and the use of cloud services such as Google Colab to use it.

Next week, we will look at the key building blocks of deep learning networks in more detail, and start to build our own simple CNNs using PyTorch.
