Week 2 summary

A summary article of week 2 of deep learning for bioscientists: convolutional neural networks
Congratulations on completing week two of the course!

We covered a lot of important concepts this week, and we hope you have a better understanding of how convolutional neural networks, the heart of deep learning, are constructed.

In this week we have covered:

  • network components, including:
    • convolutional layers
    • max pooling layers
    • activation functions
  • tensors and dimensionality
  • constructing convolutional neural networks (CNNs)
  • CNNs in Python PyTorch.

Now we know how to build networks, we need to know how to train them, as we will see next week.
