(upbeat music) <v ->Welcome to week one,</v> DeFi’s new technology in finance. In week one we are gonna demystify that technology. Chris, how are we gonna do that? <v ->Over the next three hours</v> we’re gonna introduce you to the key concepts of DeFi. We’re gonna introduce smart contracts, this incredibly exciting new technology and why they exist and why they’re so important in DeFi. Then we’re gonna explore some of the disruptions that DeFi will cause to the financial system and to the economic system more generally. And then finally, we’re gonna leave you with a really valuable glossary of the ideas and concepts that you’ll keep referring to throughout this course. Let’s kick off. (upbeat music)

Welcome to week one of the Decentralised Finance: Blockchain, Ethereum, and The Future of Banking course. This week we will focus on demystifying the world of DeFi. Watch Associate Professor Chris Berg and Professor Jason Potts from the RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub talk about what you can expect from this week.

Over the course of this week, we will:

  • explore cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology that supports them
  • introduce smart contracts and discuss their role in DeFi
  • discuss the significant role that DeFi is playing in finance
  • introduce you to the culture and community that supports DeFi

Upon completion of week one, you should better be able to:
