Introduction to Week 1

Week 1 introduction and outline of activities.
Welcome to week 1 of DSASHE, also known as the Digital Skills Awareness course for Starting Higher Education.
We start this first week with an activity about understanding and managing expectations. What kinds of digital skills do you expect to need for your studies? In this activity, we find out about you and why you’re on this course. We also hear from other prospective students about their hopes and fears. And we hear from current and former HE students about what they actually experienced. Then we move through activities about access to online learning - all about navigating systems and accessibility needs. Then online learning environments - the sites, systems and tools where most of your learning will take place. And assignments and assessments - submission systems, referencing tools and the importance of avoiding plagiarism.
Finally, we end the week with a quiz, which will help you review and remember the key concepts from the week. This week’s work should take you about 3 hours to complete, and we hope you enjoy it.

Welcome to Week 1: Your Learning Environment!

This week is all about the learning environment – the digital space where much of your learning will take place and the tools and technologies in and around it.

This is the outline for the week’s learning.
