This week’s introduction

This week, we will learn ‘Folk song, Sangyeosori - The Voice of Life’

This week, we will learn ‘Korean Folk song’.

Folk songs are very closely related to the daily life of Koreans. Koreans sang on a daily basis for the exhaustion of labor, the joys and sorrows of life, and self-consolation. Folk songs were the closest music that could be realized with one’s voice anytime, anywhere, without restrictions on instruments, places, and forms. In addition, many people farmed or fished together, lifted and moved trees, and synchronized movements through folk songs. As machines replaced human labor in many areas of Korea, many folk songs disappeared, but traces of soothing everyday emotions through songs still remain in Korean sentiment.
