Conclusion for the Course

Korean Music Discovery Series introduced Korean music expressed in various tones and voices and the cultural context in which it existed.

Through this class, you could not only explore Korean traditional music itself, but also explore Korean traditional music from the perspective of literature and music, dramatic art and music, court culture and music, and common people’s culture and music.

I hope you have felt and learned the artistry of Korean music not only in the music itself but in various cultural contexts related to music. More specifically, I hope you will continue to think about the following topics.

I hope that through understanding and appreciation of various Korean traditional music, students will be able to sympathize with the artistry of Korean traditional music and broaden their understanding of Korean history and culture based on this understanding.- I hope you have experienced cultural diversity by comparing your country’s music with Korean music.- I hope you have distinguished between the general emotions of mankind expressed through music and the special emotions of Koreans.

Recently, interest in Korean music is increasing worldwide, but it is limited to a genre that corresponds to a very small part of Korean music, also called k-pop. This lecture will be very useful as an opportunity to expand this interest to Korean music in general and Korean culture in the background. I hope this lecture will serve as an opportunity to renew your perception of Korean culture as a whole.
