Looking Ahead to Week 3

Well done on reaching the end of Week 2. So, you are now two thirds of the way through the course.

By this stage you should have a pretty good idea about what V2G is all about, how it works and some of the benefits of using it. In the first week we looked at the ‘What’ of V2G – what it is, what it can be used for and some of how it works. Whilst in this second week we have covered the ‘Why’ in more detail; why V2G is beneficial and the different value propositions associated with it.

So here are some of my key takeaways from Week 2 of the course:

• The energy system is undergoing significant transitions driven by the need to decarbonise. Increases in renewable energy has been increasing the need for flexibility. And the adoption of EVs and the electrification of heating are driving much higher electricity demands, again increasing the need for smarter more flexible technology.
• V2G can offer much more to customers than just a financial reward. Providing enhanced battery management or back up power are two examples, but V2G can also offer the chance for people to progress towards a net zero lifestyle.
• From the Sciurus trial we saw that the more customers used the technology, both their usage of it and attitude towards it can change positively.

Looking Ahead

That’s everything covered for Week 2, but we have one more week to go. During Week 3 we’ll be moving on to the ‘How’ of V2G. You’ll look at how to apply V2G, by looking at the global outlook for the technology, examine the market readiness of it, and cover the barriers that are hindering widespread V2G adoption. You’ll also hear from those who have made a business out of V2G. So, there’s some great content to cover during this last week.
