Welcome back to Week 2 of the course. This week we will be looking at exercise for the treatment of disease, and we are joined by Dr Mikel Egana and Dr Fiona Wilson who will be exploring exercise for the treatment of various diseases.

In this week we will examine exercise prescription for:

  • Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, such as diabetes
  • Pulmonary disease
  • Brain health
  • The musculoskeletal system
  • Cancer
  • Children and older adults

We will start off this week by exploring the anti-inflammatory effect of exercise, and looking at the various ways exercise can be measured by describing two common tests: the six minute walk test, and the grip strength test.

If there are any terms that you are unsure of, please refer to the glossary and let us know if you have any questions about a particular term.
