Things to think about when you’re preparing and selecting resources

What about people making their own resources? Absolutely. Teachers do that all the time. And I think there are absolute advantages to it, because if you know your learners and you’re choosing material particularly for those learners, then it’s fantastically engaging. The disadvantage is that preparing your own material can take a long time. The other things that I think when you’re thinking about selecting materials and selecting resources that you have to worry about a little bit, particularly if you’re teaching in a country that you’re not very sure about cultural issues and that sort of thing, you need to be sensitive to your learners and to cultural issues, about whether materials or texts or any kind of resources might be offensive to them.

Careful choice of songs, for example. Yeah. And if you do choose your own resources, try and prepare something that you’re going to be able to use again. Absolutely. Don’t spend ages preparing something for one-off use.
