Trainees and teachers talking about preparing for CELTA
Brush up on your language skills. Brush up on your language skills, because you’re going to need them in the course. You could probably do some light reading in regards to what is to be expected of a CELTA. But teach a few – oh, one thing you can do - you can maybe teach a few classes, part-time classes, just to see if you like being in front of students. Most challenging thing - I would have to say it’s probably like getting your head around like all the coursework. There’s a lot of terminology, a lot of new concepts. The whole thing with like CCQs and ICQs and all these like new concepts is something that I’ve never even thought about.
And now all of a sudden I have to start implementing this, so I would say like just getting my head around like the main coursework. And that was the hardest part in the beginning. But now that I’m used to it, it’s getting easier. If one thing, I would say, you need to have a prior knowledge of English, the language, the grammar, the phonetics of the language in order to be able to do a course.

So what are you going to do next? Has this course helped you decide to become an English language teacher? If so, are you going to do a course to get some training? Are you a teacher already? Are you thinking of updating your skills?

We asked Stephan to give you some advice on preparing for a course and to suggest some things which will help you when you are doing a course. Watch the video and decide which of the points below he mentions. Speech bubbles with advice for preparing for a course
