Introducing the topic – the environment

Nicole introduces the topic for this week.
2.2
NICOLE: The environment is always in the news and it often seems that the news isn’t good. It can be difficult to be optimistic, but there are projects that are making a difference and helping to ensure the future of our environment. One of them is the Eden Project in Cornwall, in the south west of England and this week we’ll watch a short film about the work they’re doing there. We’ll then go on to look at environmental issues in your country. What are the challenges in your country and what is being done. We’ll start this week though by looking at your attitude to the environment. Are you a ‘green’ person?
43.4
Someone who is concerned about the environment and tries to make a difference? Or perhaps you think that there is too much concern about the environment and that people worry too much about it. In the next steps, you’re going to do a short quiz about you and the environment. After that, I’d like you to share your views. What do you think are the biggest problems we face in terms of the environment and what do you do about them?

This week we’ll be talking about the environment and what we can do to protect it. We’ll talk a bit about your own behaviour, look at an environmentally friendly project in the UK and talk about the challenges your country faces.
