Example of Production Innovation
In 2017, a Swedish construction company introduced a new production facility where they, to a large extent, aimed to incorporate production innovation in their work.
In this example, they invented a technique where they replaced all the layers of a traditional bathroom floor with a finished “tub” of composite material, which is mounted directly in the housing modules:
This innovation led to better lead time, better quality, lesser costs and, not to mention, a more sustainable production process. Although the composite material has an expensive purchase price, it balances out and becomes profitable due to reduced production costs and maintenance.
