Case Study: Electrification of Vehicles in Mexico

As explained in the previous article, adopting E-Mobility brings many benefits. For example, in Mexico City, one of the world’s most populous cities, Megaflux, a company specializing in the electrification of commercial fleets, collaborated with Grupo Modelo, a Mexican brewery. The aim of this collaboration was to produce the first fully electric truck for beverage distribution and delivery in metropolitan areas. After months of research, design, and testing, they unveiled ‘the world’s first fully electric low-bed truck’ in 2022.

Following the unveiling, both companies focused their efforts on developing an electric truck with a range of up to 80 kilometers per charge, complemented by an additional 20 kilometers of backup range. Each electric truck has a capacity of carrying 12 tons. The pioneering fleet of trucks had already been tested in Mexico City, and by 2022 the company had 10 trucks circulating and delivering beverages.

This fleet of all-electric vehicles contributes to Grupo Modelo’s commitment to reduce emissions by 25 percent by 2025. In addition, the company aims to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2040, while also targeting the integration of 400 electric trucks by the same year. This initiative includes the introduction of new electric vehicles and the electrification of its existing fleet.

To electrify Grupo Modelo’s delivery units, the company chose an Isuzu chassis as the base and integrated it with a lithium battery pack developed by Megaflux. Watch the video above to learn more about this electrified truck.
