Welcome back! We hope you’re looking forward to week 2 of the course.

This week, we will start to build gender-inclusive design processes. In the diagram below you will see the key stages of the design process we will be covering.

A step by step diagram that reads Assemble diverse team, Inclusive research, Participatory design and Feedback & testing

We will begin by thinking about how we can form inclusive design teams, involving stakeholders as part of the process. We will discuss how to mitigate biases within our teams and how to create inclusive cultures for feedback. Cami will then introduce their work to help us think about developing inclusive research practices. We will discuss the importance of participatory design and Hera will talk us through the idea of designing for edge cases. Lastly, we will explore how we can manage and implement feedback and effectively test our products and services.

At certain stages, throughout the week we will be applying what we are learning to a sample project so that you can understand how gender-inclusive approaches can be put into practice. The project we will be working with is CAREM, a gender-inclusive voice assistant for young adults which provides health advice.

By the end of week 2 you will be able to:

  • Reflect on your individual and team biases
  • Explore gender-inclusive approaches to research
  • Assess the importance of participatory design
  • Develop best practices for managing and implementing feedback.

We can’t wait to get started, so, tell us, what are you most looking forward to in week 2? Share your thoughts below.
