SEO can take quite a bit of time to kick in, which is why it’s often viewed as a long term strategy. You can indeed get results pretty quickly, however, not as fast as you can in comparison to Google Ads.

Google Ads gives you the ability to generate results and leads instantly. The whole process is a little bit different as when we run an ad, we are essentially entering an auction and bidding on a keyword.

As a local business, you’ll want to bid on a local keyword which is typically defined by the below two elements:

  • Service
  • Location

For example:

“Carpet installer Richmond” – Carpet installer would be the service and Richmond would be the location.

How Google Ads Work

You pay Google every time someone clicks your ad, whether they get in touch with you or not. The amount you pay per click is dependent on what your competitors are willing to pay for a click as it’s essentially an auction. The company that gets the top ad spot is the company that is typically willing to pay the most per click.

Main Benefits

There are many great benefits to be gained from using Google Ads. Here are some of the main ones:

Fast: With Google Ads, results are generated almost instantly so straight away you know where you stand

Targeted: These ads are super targeted if done correctly. For instance, you can create a Google Ad and tell Google only show this ad to people in a certain city. You can also target a specific mile radius around a location as well, which is perfect for local businesses.

Google Ads are great to utilise in the early stages while SEO is in the background kicking in. However, as soon as you start to get some rankings and leads organically, it makes sense to switch off Google Ads as they are not really needed anymore. This is primarily why I tend to use them as a short term strategy.

However, if you do find they’re working really well for you, continue to let them run in the background in tangent with your SEO and generate even more leads.

So now we’ve gone through the pros and cons of Google ads, next we’re going to walk through exactly how you can set up a simple ad for your business.
