Conclusion – How to become a police officer in England and Wales

Hello, welcome back. The first thing I’m going to say is congratulations. You’ve reached the end of this three-week course, on how to become a police officer in England and Wales. I hope you’ve, one, learned something from it and maybe it’s stimulated your interest in policing. Now, we’ve gone through a few things, one is how to become a police officer obviously. Looking at some of the skills and the competencies, looking at some of the things that may attract you and some of the values and ethics that go with police officers. You’ve also been given a broad understanding of the police service. We looked at the rank structure and the forces.
We looked at evidence-based policing, it’s one of the new emerging things that’s coming in policing. Finally, we looked at, obviously, how you can take those next steps in the entry routes for police officers, whether you have a degree, if you’re considering doing a degree, which will be the most appropriate degree and also some of the graduate detective entry program. As I say, if you are considering a career in policing, what I can say from my own personal experience is, you can look forward to a rewarding career that provides you with security but probably more important, is it provides you with a challenge and to make a real difference to people’s lives.
Hopefully, that’s come through some of the videos of what you’ve read during this course. Those of you who are considering a career in policing, if you haven’t got a degree, I really would suggest embarking on the BSc in Professional Policing, because it will equip you to carry out that role and prepare you to become a police officer in the future and be part of the change that’s currently going down in modern policing. As I said, I hope this has stimulated your interest in it and hopefully, I may be able to meet up with you in the future. Thank you very much for listening, reading, and watching.
