Throughout this course, you'll find out about what AI actually is, how it is used in certain jobs, and what a career using AI looks like.

Are you interested in AI? Do you want to know more about what AI can do in the workplace and what skills you might need to develop to work with AI? Or perhaps you are interested in becoming an AI developer? You are in the right place! This short course will reveal how AI is changing the world of work and how you can start thinking about the steps you need to take on your new career path towards a career that either uses or develops AI.

Throughout this course, you’ll be finding out more about what AI actually is, how it is used in certain jobs, and what a career using AI might look like. We will also look at the more advanced careers in AI engineering and development.

How the course will work

  • The course is divided into two weeks.
  • Each week there will be two activities, with a range of different tasks for you to complete at your own pace.
  • The course is not facilitated, but is designed to support peer learning through online discussions.
  • There will be a range of quizzes, reading sections, videos, and chances for you to discuss questions with other learners; this can be a great way of getting different viewpoints and ideas, so do use these chances to network with your peers and share your ideas!
  • Finally, you will take the test at the end to earn your certificate. The pass mark is 70% and you also need to complete 90% of the steps in the course to gain your certificate.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain what AI is.
  • Describe the history of artificial intelligence.
  • Discuss some of the ethical implications of artificial intelligence.
  • Describe the skills are needed for a career working with artificial intelligence.
  • Produce a personal plan to acquire those skills.
