Resistance in human healthcare

This video explains the human factors that drive AMR.

Predicting when an infecting organism is likely to be resistant is a challenge when deciding on the choice of antibiotic to treat an infection.

In this video, we explore how clinicians can try to predict the likelihood of infection with an antibiotic-resistant pathogen at the bedside.

Prior antibiotic exposure, underlying disease, and invasive procedures were the key risk factors identified in an excellent 2018 study by Chatterjee et al.

The most effective intervention to address resistance in humans is Antimicrobial stewardship. We will discuss this further in the next step.
