Introduction to the final week

An introduction to 'How to start your career in games development' FutureLearn course with the BGI.
Here we are. It’s the final week. That means it’s time to think about interviews. I know– interviews. Many of you will dread an interview. I know I did when I went for mine. But it actually wasn’t that bad. I know you may not be ready to set an interview now, but we’re going to equip you with some tips and inside knowledge on how to take them in your stride when you’re ready. Our developers are going to share how they felt before they set up their interviews. Recruiters, CEOs, and lead producers will tell us what they’re looking for in new candidates, and how they accommodate their nerves.
We’re going to give you some practise answering some standard interview questions, and talk about preparation. We’ll then discuss the kinds of questions you might ask the studio. It’s important to say that interviews can take on many different forms depending on the studio, and the role you’re applying for. Many might include assessments. Some might be formal, others very relaxed. It depends on the studio. How a studio interviews should tell you a lot about them, and ultimately whether you want to work there. The trick is to be prepared, know what to expect, and to be ready to put the best version of you forward.

By the end of this final week, you’ll be much better equipped to face interviews, because you’ll have heard what studios are looking for, what happened to our developers, and done some practice of your own.

Good luck!
