Introduction to Week 2

Dr Ian Gray introduces week 2 of the course.
6.8
Welcome to the second week of the course. Now that you’ve got a basic understanding of deep learning and how we can apply it to images, we’re going to spend the second week focussed on applications relating to the analysis of humans. The human visual system is highly attuned to recognising and perceiving human faces and bodies. We’re going to study the problem of face recognition, see how visual analysis of human behaviour can be used in assistive technology and look at the challenge of synthesising realistic human face images. In doing so, we’ll introduce some new machine learning concepts, namely contrastive learning, generative models, adversarial learning and unsupervised learning.
