“N-(이)라서 그렇다, Adj/Verb-아/어/해서 그렇다”

“N-(이)라서 그렇다, Adj/Verb-아/어/해서 그렇다” is an expression used a lot in conversation like “N-(이)거든요, Adj/Verb-거든요” learning today.

This expression consists of the adjectives ‘-아/아/해서’ and ‘그렇다’ which mean ‘yes’ and is used to express ‘그 말 그대로이다 = as it is’ without repeating the other person’s words in a conversation.

For example, when someone asks, “오늘 왜 도서관에 학생이 많아요?=Why are there so many students in the library today?” you could say, “내일이 시험이라서 학생이 많아요.” However, you can also answer, “내일이 시험이라서 그래요.”

‘그렇다’ can be used as ‘그랬어요’ in the past tense. To use it as a future tense or speculation, you can use ‘그럴 거예요’.
