Grammar 1 (N이/가 시작되다/계속되다/끝나다)

Let’s study in detail the expressions we learned today.

~이/가 시작되다/계속되다/끝나다

All the expressions that describe the weather that we learned today are expressions that describe the condition of particular weather. However, if you want to express a “period” of the same weather that extends for many days, you should use the expression “~이/가 시작되다/계속되다/끝나다”

For example, a rainy period is called “장마” in Korean, which should be described as “장마가 시작되다, 장마가 계속되다, 장마가 끝나다.”

It should be expressed in terms of period, such as ‘더위’ and ‘추위,’ which means ‘Hot weather’ and ‘cold weather’. The following examples are the expressions that are frequently seen in the weather forecast.

Examples

1) 다음 주부터 장마가 시작되겠습니다.

2) 2주 동안 계속된 장마는 이번 주말에 끝나겠습니다.

3) 이번 더위는 당분간 계속되겠습니다.

4) 다음 주부터 본격적인 추위가 시작되겠습니다.
