Technological aids to detect sleep breathing disorders

Video. Dr. Liu will present innovative applications of artificial intelligence for a sleep breathing disorder.

This week, Dr. Liu will present innovative applications of artificial intelligence for a sleep-breathing disorder.

He will first explain how to perform a sleep exam in the hospital and diagnose sleep apnea. Patients’ sleep apnea severity fluctuates greatly from night to night, and physicians have no way of knowing long-term sleep apnea status. Professor will introduce a wearable device, Rooti Rx, to help detect a patient’s breathing disorder.

This wearable device can detect particular changes when the patient has sleep apnea, including the first one called CVHRI. That is, when a sleep breathing disorder occurs, the heart rate will initially show a slight decrease and then rise sharply. It will not return to normal until breathing is restored, called a cyclic variation of heart rate. Doctors can also get a more complete picture of a patient’s physical condition based on the severity of sleep apnea. Dr. Liu will explain the experimental data with a comparison of the apnea scenario between sleep in a hospital and sleep at Home. And finally, He will explain the experimental results and the significance of the experiment, and how wearable devices can accurately identify patients with severe OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Adults).
