The main technology and case of information visualization

What are the main technologies for visualization? In this article, Dr Ming Yan discusses his recent research.

Visualized data are divided into one-dimensional data, two-dimensional data, three-dimensional data, multidimensional data, temporal data, hierarchical data and network data, of which the visualization of the latter four types of data is the hotspot of current research.

Multi-dimensional data visualization technology

By using multidimensional data visualization technology, the above disadvantages can be effectively solved. There are many kinds of multidimensional data visualization techniques, and some typical multidimensional visualization techniques are introduced below.

Geometry-based visualization: this type of approach is often used in combination with other ways to enhance the display of multidimensional data, can effectively enhance the display of information data, applicable to larger data.

Icon-based visualization: This type of approach is mainly to have visual features of geometric shapes as icons to portray multidimensional data. Icons often have more visual attributes, which can effectively reflect the visualization effect.

Temporal data visualization technology

Temporal data visualization technology mainly refers to the information data through the development of time characteristics of the collection and organization, through the corresponding means to make it present visualization form. The visualization form presented by this technology generally has several kinds of line graph, stacked graph, time line.

Hierarchical data visualization

Hierarchical data is a common type of data that can be used to describe objects with hierarchical or hierarchical relationships, such as living species, organizational structures, family relationships, and social networks. The visualization methods of hierarchical data are mainly node link diagram and tree diagram.

Node Link Diagram: Node Link Diagram is to organize hierarchical data into a connection structure similar to the nodes of a tree, drawing nodes and lines to represent the data items and the relationship between them, Node Link Diagram can clearly and intuitively show the relationship within the hierarchical data, the disadvantage is that when the amount of data is large, it may be due to the branching of the chaotic and visually confusing phenomenon.

Tree diagram: tree diagram by a series of nested rings, blocks to display hierarchical data, can be displayed in a limited space to show a large amount of data, but can not show the details of the node content. In order to display more node content, some based on “focus + context” interaction methods have been developed, including geometric deformation, semantic scaling, “fisheye” technology.

Web Data Visualization

Network data visualization is to understand all the traffic on the incoming and outgoing data network through many types of monitoring and analysis tools, then collect target data from them, conduct pre-analysis and processing, and then accurately distribute the corresponding data to different processing equipment, which not only greatly reduces the unnecessary costs incurred in data interaction of the application sector, but also improves the accuracy and efficiency. For example, the equipment specializing in analyzing data traffic can concentrate fully on analyzing traffic, and the equipment specializing in analyzing data security can concentrate more on analyzing security.
