Cable TV network

What are the components of a cable TV system? In this article, Dr Ming Yan discusses his recent research.

cable network transmission

Community Antenna Television (CATV) network is a television network system that uses cables, fiber optic cables, or microwaves for transmission, distributes signals among subscribers, and provides subscribers with hundreds of television programs and a variety of information services.

In 1950, the United States was the first to use the shared antenna television system; in 1973, China was the first to use the shared antenna television system; in 2003, China began to digitize its cable television; by February 2014: the number of cable digital television subscribers in China had reached 164,263,000, and the degree of cable digitization was about 73.33%.

The development of cable TV network system is from small to large shared antenna TV system, then to urban cable TV system, and finally fiber coaxial cable hybrid network (Hpa Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC)) as well as two-way HFC broadband network.

cable television system

Cable TV system is composed of four parts: receiving signal source system, front-end processing system, trunk transmission system, subscriber distribution system, and subscriber terminal.

Signal sources include satellite earth stations, microwave stations, television broadcast reception antennas, cameras, video recorders, and computer controls. Front-end processing system refers to a combination of equipment that performs some technical processing on the transmission signals coming from the signal sources.

Trunk transmission system refers to the super trunk or trunk line for long-distance transmission, which is located between the front-end processing and the user distribution system. Trunk transmission includes four ways: coaxial cable network, fiber optic cable network, microwave network and hybrid network.

The user distribution system is to amplify and distribute the signals coming from the trunk line transmission system, and distribute the signals evenly to each user, so that each user terminal can get the specified level.
