Interview analysis – bad practice

A chance to analyse some 'interview footage' demonstrating poor practice.

In this video, user researchers conduct ‘interviews’ but do not demonstrate good practice.

Task

Watch the video and try to identify the problems with these interviews.

These are fictional (and you will recognise the participants from the previous videos in the course!), but they are representative of real interviews that these user researchers have experienced.

While you are watching, think about what you learned in the previous step. You should consider things like:

  • tone of voice
  • body language
  • the types of questions being asked
  • how the participant responds or how they appear to feel
  • how the interviewer handles problems as they arise

Share and discuss your thoughts and ideas with your fellow learners in the comments below. Remember, these scenarios are fictional, but they represent real experiences – how do you think you would respond in these situations?
