  1. Possess a definition of Improvisation in modern jazz

  2. Understand the difference between “noodling” and good improvisation

  3. Understand the difference between “singing the line” and “playing the sing”

  4. Echo the hot licks played in this session on C7

  5. Know the chord sequence for a standard blues and its variation the altered standard sequence where the sixth bar uses a diminished chord

  6. Improvise on a major blues such as “Things Aint What They Used To Be” using a standard sequence and hot licks on the corresponding two full blues scales

  7. Improvise on a major blues such as “Now’s The Time” and “Blue Monk” using the altered standard sequence and hot licks on the corresponding two full blues scales and the one diminished scale
