Watch children

Watch and comment!

Let’s watch Noah and Elias playing this activity.

The goal is to be the first player to complete a fence all around the baseplate.

Social interaction is a powerful tool for learning and for play. Through communication of thoughts, direct interaction and sharing of ideas, children are not only able to enjoy being with others, they also build deeper understanding and more powerful relationships with others.

By not checking what the other is doing (e.g., pick a number brick, take the correct amount of bricks etc), both children show their trust in each other. Strong social relationships are based upon confidence. It is crucial for inclusion!

Each student says out loud what he is doing so that the other can follow without engaging in a constant checking process. In some activities, a final discussion is held to see if the rules of the game have been followed.

Building trust allows children to feel secure enough to ask questions of their classmates, which helps everyone to progress in the activity.

Children take turns. At the end of the activity, if the number chosen from the bowl is too large, they cannot build the fence and must skip their turn!

They learn to wait for the other player to take their turn and accept they may not win the game.

Share your inputs on what challenges the children could face before commencing this exercise!
