Add spaces between words.

You saw Tao preparing his baseplate for a friend. He remains focused on the bricks, following the instructions, writing real words and adding some traps.

“Words and Space” is a great example for developing all five categories of holistic skills.

  • Cognitive: the starting point was to build an activity to reach a universal cognitive academic skill : “develop understanding concepts such as leaving spaces between words”.

“Words and Space” fosters work on many other aspects and goes much further than a simple cognitive discovery.

What kind of other holistic skills will children develop?

  • Creative: a second one is obvious: “Perform operations on letters and word syllables, remove, add, reverse, locate, substitute”. It is a creative one because children really have to play with letters, removing, reconstituting and creating words.

  • Physical: for this activity, good tracking and tactile skills are needed with both hands. Children learn to track a line, read a letter on a brick with one hand and use the other to replace the brick correctly to create words. “Develop bilateral hand use” is a physical skill.

  • Emotional: can emotions be explored in this activity? Yes! “Develop vocabulary and understanding in reading”. Reading a book or just a word can lead to a lot of feelings! Some children don’t want to touch the word “snake”! And a smile can suddenly appear when reading words that bring back favourite memories!

  • Social: “Participate with other students in both relation leadership and follower roles” is also fundamental, even when activities are prepared by adults or children.

As usual, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts, questions and comments!
