Spotlight: ‘Sharing for Sustainability’

The Climate Sisters and SCOREscotland showcase their 'Sharing for Sustainability' creative event. Watch the video to find out more.

Last year in response to COP, the ‘Climate Sisters’ – a group of 13 women in Glasgow from diverse communities – took part in a series of climate leadership workshops. They produced creative pieces such as music, poetry, photographs, clothes, dance, and a mobile garden, which reflected their thoughts, feelings and views on climate action and issues of justice.

Building on this, and in response to COP27, the Climate Sisters and young people from SCOREscotland came together for “Sharing for Sustainability” – the event captured in the video above. The Sharing for Sustainability event brought the Climate Sisters interactive exhibition pieces to the University of Edinburgh and gave an opportunity for young people from SCOREscotland to discuss creative approaches to the climate crisis with the artists.

The event also created space for everyone involved to share climate stories from their own perspectives and engage in a ‘mock’ UN COP event where the Climate Sisters and young people worked together as given countries to debate, discuss and draw up draft agreements to safeguard people and planet into the future.

The short Spotlight video above, and this optional longer video, share the story of the women and young people’s involvement in this project, the ambition behind the event and their hopes for the future.

We invite you take a moment of Personal Reflection to consider the following:

  • When was the last time you took creative action for something you care about?
  • What was it that moved you to take action?
  • What was your creative response?

You are welcome to share your reflections in the comments area below, but there is no obligation to do so.
