Spotlight on Maya

Watch Wendy Palmer explore how a business assignment reveals the skills learners develop beyond completing the activity.

In this video, you’ll explore what is happening when Maya is working on a business assignment.

This is a typical university assessment. Maya is researching information, working with her team, developing recommendations, and preparing a presentation.

But if we look a little closer, what is Maya actually doing? What skills and capability are being developed through the assignment?

Learners often demonstrate skills such as research, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking as part of their everyday learning. Yet these skills are not always named or made visible.

As you watch, consider:

  • What is Maya learning beyond the business content itself?
  • Which skills can you see in her actions and decisions?
  • What might be missed if we focused only on the final presentation or grade?

This step invites you to notice the difference between completing an assignment and developing capability.
