Welcome back to this class again! In last session, we just mentioned a doctor as a mediator for social change, which is a universal truth in our society. Now, we are going to express, in the coming future, doctors still keep such a kind of role in the modernization of postmodern part. With an aging population, long-term management health and the diseases can no longer be the responsibility solely of the doctors, and the patients must take responsibility for his own health. Therefore, doctors must be the mediators for a change in the relationship again. So… now we want to advance such kind of community engagement to apply service learning in order to foster the user and the server group interactions. So…

in the information society with the support of from idea related to smart technologies, we wish end users become active participants, not only for users but also for innovations. Just like all experience happened in the past in healthcare arena. Along the line, we can see community as the driving force for building a health city that allow aging-in-place. So… This course will present a model for community-oriented curriculum design, illustrate medical humanities as new intellectual movements in Taiwan and the US, as well as demonstrate platform for Living Lab experiments using smart technology in tribal areas of Taiwan. So… this course will bring a brand new vision for the future.

First, These communities featuring “living labs” can formulate the knowledge architecture for idea of benefit sharing and sustainable urban or regional planning. We propose, community-based ethical governance framework for fostering genomic medicine and smart living technology. In a sense, we call a bottom up reform for a new biotechnology age, where we think that, biological revolution has overseen what we have accomplished in industrial revolution through hundred years, but the challenge is evenenormous. So… a greater momentum from all participants from all conscious citizenship is realy important. And then, professionalism. A new sense of professionalism should be a mediator to forge, to take a powerful with approach, to nurture such a kind of new conscious of global citizenship.
