Thanks for joining us on this course. It’s been a rich learning experience for us all, and we trust you have enjoyed the journey. We hope you found the instructional videos helpful, and are feeling more confident about preparing for and conducting a newborn assessment. And if you’re an expectant parent who has joined us on this course, hopefully you’re now feeling more empowered to ask questions and be involved in your baby’s first physical assessment. And as we now all know, involving parents during the assessment process can help alleviate their stress and provide educational opportunities at the same time. Just remember to communicate with sensitivity. For some parents it can be a really frightening time.

Looking back over the past two weeks, the course has covered a lot of ground. We’ve shown you how to systematically approach the assessment of the newborn, determine the gestational age, and we’ve touched on the importance of facilitating parental bonding with their baby as soon as possible after birth. We’ve also looked at common abnormal findings in the newborn, skin care considerations, and early milestones of newborn development. Thanks again for joining us. We look forward to hearing your comments and receiving your feedback on the course. We hope it’s been an engaging and rewarding experience for you. See you next time.

As paediatric nurses, with many years of experience, we know the difference we can make in the lives of newborns and their families.

Although we witness the joy of new babies being brought into the world every day, it’s important to not become complacent. We encourage those of you who are already in clinical practice to keep sight of the teaching role we play with parents. We are in a privileged position to encourage their confidence, share information and support that all important bond with their new baby.

Whether this course has contained new information for you or has served to reinforce what you already know, we hope you are feeling positive and excited about your learning. Remember, whether you’re a parent or a clinician, if ever you’re unsure or in doubt – always ask.

Thanks again for your wonderful contribution to this course. We have enjoyed meeting you and wish you all the very best.
