Common Misconceptions Around Open and FAIR Data

Markus speaks about Common Misconceptions Around Open and FAIR Data.

These were the FAIR principles for publishing data in a fair way. Be aware that we used these principles to achieve Open Data. However, FAIR data is not necessarily Open Data. The FAIR principles just ask you to put a clear data usage license on your data. They do not say that this license has to be an open license!

This way, the principles for good data management are also applicable to data that cannot be made open due to the legitimate reasons we learned before. Consequently, the FAIR principles are equally important for companies who want to keep the data within their ‘closed’ environment. This is not the only common misconception around open and FAIR data. The last video of this lecture will address further misconceptions.
