Welcome to the course

Introduction to the course from the lead educators.

OK, so dental treatment for children can be challenging. And in this course, we hope to give you some essential tips and tricks to make management a little bit easier. Hello. My name is Susan Parekh. I’m one of the co-leads for this online course about paediatric dentistry, some essential tips for children. I’m a senior lecturer at UCL Eastman Dental Institute. And I’m also a consultant at UCLH. I’m Paul Ashley, the other lead. I also work at UCL where I’m a professor, and at UC Leeds where I’m also a consultant.

And with Susan, together we deliver a three-year, full-time course for people who want to be specialists in paediatric dentistry, and also a three-year, part-time blended online course as well for people wanting to do a little bit more to get an LSC. And we’ve been teaching together for over 15 years now. And we think we’ve got a really good understanding of what dentists working in practice need to help them to develop their skills. So in this course, we want to share our knowledge and experience that we’ve learned to help you to really think about how you care for children.
71.9
We’re going to do this using quizzes, lots of short videos, some reading, and some discussions that we hope you’ll take part in. And we want to use this to really try and explore some of the most commonly faced problems you’re going to see in your practice. Things like emergency management trauma, and managing challenging behaving children, and thinking about effective treatment planning. We’re really going to try and sign post evidence throughout the course because we think that’s really important. So is this school suitable for you? Yeah, I think if you’re a dental care professional and you’re working with children, then this should definitely be a benefit to you.
105.4
And especially if you want to learn, know a little bit more about how to provide dental care for children. You don’t need to have any prior experience or training beyond that. So dental care for children can be rewarding and frustrating in equal measure. And what we hope this course will do is allow you to overcome some of the barriers we know that exist to either people working in primary care, working on their own. And hopefully we can make you feel a little bit more confident in your treatment. So, thank you very much and we hope you enjoy this class. Thank you.
