Ollie Green, a 68-year-old Army veteran with newly diagnosed metastatic lung cancer, blames Agent Orange exposure for his condition. He is a heavy smoker, has a history of PTSD, and does not trust the government. Ollie receives VA and Social Security benefits, lives in his own home, and has financial issues. He drinks daily, visits the VFW, and used to use marijuana. Despite his Catholic upbringing, he is spiritually conflicted, reflecting on his past wonder for nature and questioning his faith due to his illness. His estranged mother and evangelical wife have differing hopes for his spirituality.
