Local activism is at the heart of our work. Since 1961, Amnesty International has grown from our founder’s call to action into a global movement of over 10 million people.

Amnesty International UK is one of the largest national sections in our global movement: 700,000 people in the UK take action on Amnesty campaigns, including our regular members, supporters and activists.

We have had a real impact on decision-makers and people in power. Watch the video above to see the response from the Conservative MP for Chelmsford and a minister at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Our local groups, student groups and youth groups are an example of people power – supporting and running campaigns, representing Amnesty in their community or on campus, working with MPs and getting messages in the media.
