The End of Polio: Destroying the Virus

Now the next issue is the end of polio and destroying the virus. What do we do with the once we had eradicated polio and we carry this [INAUDIBLE] oral polio vaccine? There may be accidents. The virus maybe had mutated. They may become virulent. What to do with it? This video that we are going to watch now showed us containing the polio safety and securely. This is maintained– this polio virus is maintained in the laboratories now only. [INAUDIBLE] accidents and keeping the strains of the virus as [INAUDIBLE] there is unfortunately a bit of [INAUDIBLE] here. Well, let us all watch this video.

As I said, this virus is destroyed and only kept in the laboratories for the reasons I just described earlier– that it may mutate. It may get out from the laboratories, or the existing oral polio vaccine may again produce polio towards [INAUDIBLE].. And it is now, since this is eradicated, so we did not need this virus. But it is kept in the laboratories. So the take-home messages are– I will again repeat it. No product, no program. So ensuring supply of right product in right quantity at the right time at right place to right person of right quality is very, very important. So let us remember these seven rights and which are very important to see.

And also, the health programs would not have the commodities we need to provide clients with life saving services if we did not have the largest [INAUDIBLE]. We also learned that it has a huge impact on program outcomes. It has implications for cost, efficiency, and effectiveness. So an effective and efficient logistics and supply chain for health is a very, very important component of any health program to succeed.
