A very brief history of pubs (Part 2)

Victoria Wells discusses a brief history of pubs (Part 2)

In this short video I’ll continue to talk about the history of pubs, and I’ll cover pubs from the 20th century as planning and development alternated the types and numbers of pubs in the UK.

I also talk about a book by Jessica Boak and Ray Bailey and if you’d like to know more about the development of pubs in the 20th century I can highly recommend it. Details are as follows (available from all good booksellers): Boak, J and Bailey, R (2017) 20th Century Pub: From Beer House to Booze Bunker, The Homewood Press.

You might also like to read this article about the rise of gastro pubs in the Morning Advertiser (content is free but you do need to register): Eversham, E. (2019) Seeing stars: how pubs have grown to rival restaurants The Morning Advertiser, 20th February 2019.
