Welcome to ‘Dental Radiography: Radiation Protection in Dental Practice’. Thank you for joining us!

In the video above, Joanne Shaw welcomes you to the course and introduces the topics which will be covered over the next five weeks.

This course is designed for those working with X-rays in the dental practice setting to provide either a base level of training in radiation protection or to refresh previously trained staff.

The course aims to allow you to carry out X-ray imaging safely and in compliance with UK legislation.

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Understand the potential hazards associated with X-radiation

  • Understand the importance of restricting the exposure of both patients and staff as far as is reasonably practicable.

  • Be aware of UK legislation and guidance relating to work with dental X-ray equipment.

  • Apply the basic principles of practical radiation protection in a dental practice.

  • Be in a position to take the role of a Radiation Protection Supervisor in relation to dental radiography.

The course will last for 5 weeks with approximately 1 hour of learning each week and is accredited for 5 CPD points. A certificate is redeemable at the end of the course.

We have provided a glossary of terms which are used during the course, you can find this here or download a copy from the downloads section at the bottom of this page.

We hope you enjoy the course.
