From November 2021, there will be two important changes to the PTE Academic Test.

New version

There will be a new version of PTE Academic, with a shorter and more convenient timeframe of 2 hours. All item types in the test will remain the same; however, the frequency of some will be reduced.

The number of item types in the Speaking section of the test will be as follows:

Item type Old version New version
Personal introduction 1 1
Read aloud 6-7 6-7
Repeat sentence 10-12 10-12
Describe image 6-7 3-4
Re-tell lecture 3-4 1-2
Answer short question 10-12 5-6

This means that the Speaking and Writing section of the test will now take 54-67 minutes.

PTE Academic Online

PTE Academic Online is a remote proctored version of PTE Academic that can be taken at home, in an office or any other convenient location, and it will allow test takers to complete a test securely through a browser without going to a test centre.

The format of PTE Academic Online is the same as the new shorter 2-hour format of PTE Academic. The test includes the same question types across all four skills with the same level of difficulty.
